"My Expectations Exceeded"

Editor's Note: The members of the Delta Class went on a retreat in order to grow closer as brothers and discover more about the "Beta Spirit" at nearby Carrollodge over the weekend of November 13-15.

The retreat was something that I did not know what to expect. For me, at first, it was something I was looking forward to. Yet at the same time, I was also focused and continually thinking about my homework. It was never a thought of, "I could be doing something better with my time" but rather, "I must do my homework even though I don't want to and I don't know when I'm going to find time to if I go on this retreat." The retreat finished, I have had my expectations exceeded and am really satisfied that I chose not do homework instead of the retreat. While on the retreat, we did many bonding activities such as a personality wheel, trust lean, interlocking arms, marble pass, trust fall, and story sharing. As the retreat progressed, the activities tightened more and more the Delta class together. Some of the activities that stuck out to me were the marble pass, dinner, and story sharing. Each built a different type of bond. The marble game built a bond of teamwork, while dinner built a bond of family, and story sharing built a bond of emotion. Even though I didn't get to talk one-on-one with some of the others who I had not known much about, I still feel that everyone opened up to each other well enough so that I and everyone else can approach each other with a much greater sense of comfort than before. Thank you Jurell, Joel, Andy, and Chris for setting this up for us and thank you Beta Theta Pi Delta Class for this unique and wonderful experience.
