Smiles and Unending Energy

Editor's Note: Twenty Betas took part as big "buddies" or volunteers on Saturday, December 5 as part of our partnership with Circle K International, the sponsoring organization of the annual "Through the Eyes of a Child" event.

I have been a volunteer for Through the Eyes of a Child for three years. The event consists of John Carroll students signing up to be “buddies” with a gradeschooler from the Cleveland area for a day of fun Christmas activities. These activities include cookie decorating, face-painting, making Christmas cards and ornaments, as well as seeing Santa and receiving a gift from him. I have enjoyed my time volunteering for this event because the kids really look up to their buddies and value the attention they get from their buddies. The parents and teachers of the children also value the efforts by the JCU community to reach out in this way and provide a fun afternoon for the kids. The event has been a very rewarding way for me to do service because seeing the smiles and unending energy of the kids is special. Overall, this event is an awesome yearly service project that myself and our entire Beta colony have been involved in and we hope to continue our support of it through the years.
