Delta Class Testimonials, Part I

Editor's Note: The following are excerpts from some of the Delta Class testimonials, reflecting on their experience as a new member of Beta Theta Pi.

If you told me last year that I would join a fraternity in my senior year of college, I would have thought you were crazy. For me, I had already accumulated a base of friends and didn’t know what void a fraternity could fill in my life. I then met most of the members of Beta Theta Pi and realized each one, although unique in personality, shared many similar aspects of character. It was at this point that I made the decision to join this group of gentlemen in their endeavor, one that will affect and already has affected my life. From recruitment and pledge class to the retreat and initiation, there has been a transfiguration that has built a part of what I am now.

I was craving to build everlasting brotherhood relationships, with similar aspirations, goals, dreams, and a privileged respect and understanding of the World today. Beta Theta Pi was the only one that recognized and distinguished my talents. Respecting and accepting me just the way I am, even in our unique ways to be. To see the commonality of our diversity is what truly distinguishes Beta from any other organization. I love the commitment to stand beside each other and I am grateful for and overwhelmed by the incredible love and support of my brothers.

You have all heard me say joining a fraternity is something I swore I would never do through my college career, but I am so happy to have found Beta. I learned that this “Beta” thing was made up of all the guys who sat in the front row of Mass in suits while I was playing [piano]. Week after week I would be extremely impressed that a group of guys consistently went to church together and sat right up front. Has this ever happened in the history of the Catholic Church? I gained respect for the group, and [once I joined] every week I found I was enjoying and appreciating the organization more and more.

From recruitment to chapter meetings to class to initiation, everything has been a blast and a blur at the same time. At the beginning of the year I had little intentions of joining a fraternity but as things unfolded in the first couple of weeks of school I found myself wanting to join Beta. We began pledge classes; my favorite part for sure was talking about peg legs as much as possible. Then came the retreat, which was a great time for all of us in the Delta class to come closer and grow together. I can honestly say that I came away from that feeling like the Delta class was definitely more unified.

Since I made the decision [to join] I have not regretted it. The parts of Beta that I experienced have been for me more than what I thought they would be. I have gotten to serve alongside brothers who value service as much as me. I have gotten to meet more people who are like-minded and I have been able to expand my friend group to include some great people who will make me a better person. Some of these people I would never have known without Beta. I am happy to align myself with an organization that stands for what Beta stands for. I look forward to working and helping grow Beta's name on campus and in the community.
